Permanent Parent Visa requirements
In order to submit a valid Permanent Parent Visa application, you must:
- have a sponsor (eligible family member)
- meet the balance-of-family test
- have an assurance of support
- have adequate health insurance
- meet the health requirement
- meet the character requirement
- sign the Australian values statement
The Permanent requires a balance-of-family test, which ensures the applicant’s ties to Australia make them an eligible candidate for this visa. However, if the Permanent Parent Visa application is submitted as a retiree, the applicant does not need a sponsor, neither meet the balance-of-family test nor have the assurance of support requirement.
The Permanent allows the applicants to stay, work and study permanently in Australia, register in the public health care system, sponsor other family members to reunite with them in Australia, and apply for the Australian citizenship, if eligible.
The Permanent (Subclass 103) application must be submitted while overseas; however, applicants who are already in Australia under the Temporary Contributory (Subclass 173) can extend their stay permanently, by applying to the Permanent Contributory (Subclass 143).
Holders of the Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa (Subclass 870) cannot apply to the Permanent Visa (Subclass 103).
The Department also offers the Visitor Visa options, for those applicants wishing to stay for a shorter period of time and who do not have an eligible sponsor.
