Child Visa (Subclass 802)
The Child Visa is a permanent visa, available to dependent children wishing to live with their biological parent, adoptive parent or step-parent, who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
In the case of adoptive children, the adoption process must have been completed before the applicant turned 18 years of age, and in the case of stepchildren, the applicant must be the child of their step-parent’s former partner and the step-parent must have a parenting order, the guardianship or custody of the applicant.
For the purposes of this visa, an eligible dependent child is either under 18 years of age, over 18 and under 25 years of age studying full-time or over 18 years of age with a disability.

In order to submit a valid Visa application, you must:
- be dependent on the eligible parent in Australia
- have a sponsor
- be the right age
- be single
- meet the health requirement
- meet the character requirement
- sign the Australian values statement
For the Visa application, the child must be sponsored by an eligible parent, their parent’s spouse or de-facto partner and the Child Visa is only granted in those cases where the applicant under 18 years of age has a written consent to migrate from the person legally responsible to decide, the laws of the child’s home country allow it or the child’s migration is consistent with an Australian order.
Successful applicants to the Visa receive a permanent resident status, they can study and enrol in the public health care system and apply for the Australian citizenship, if eligible.
